Wonder Wife & her personal ramblings

Barack Obama is One Cool Cat

Posted in Entertainment, Politics by wonderwife on October 7, 2008

The highest patriotism is not a blind acceptance of official policy, but a love of one’s country deep enough to call her to a higher plain.

-George McGovern

He’s no Hillary (had to say it Mom) – but tonight Senator Obama proved to me that he is one cool cat.  I enjoyed watching his simple yet intellegent and presidential demeanor during tonight’s attempt at a “town hall debate”.

I trust Obama, he understands.

At one point, Obama touched on how hard it is for teachers to survive in these conditions and it resonated with me.   My good friend and roommate has been laid off twice this year and currently, has been teaching for 2 months without a paycheck.  Last night, her frustration brought her to tears.

The last time I heard Senator McCain mention teaching as a profession, he was encouraging citizens to become teachers or join the military because it is patriotic.  I’m sure more of us would join the military if we knew we weren’t going to be deployed 4 times to war with the chance of never returning alive…and more would gladly become teachers if we knew there was a bit of job security and that it would pay more than an entry-level sales job.

His head is in the clouds…he does seem like he has a good heart – I’ll give him that, he’s just way off base.  Like…WAY OFF.

The other most intriguing facet of the debate transpired in my imagination.  I want nothing more than for Tina Fey to be able to morph into a John McCain look alike so she can re-live these following moments for us:

  • John McCain referring to Senator Obama as “That One”.
  • Joe Six Pack enjoying a sip every time John McCain said “my friends”.
  • John McCain on the defensive, trying to bash Obama nearly every time he had the floor.
  • John McCain saying to a man in the audience that he, personally, “had probably never heard of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac” before the economic crisis.

And last but not least….

  • John McCain’s take on our Social Security crisis.  I’d love to see Tina Fey’s spin on McCain saying it’s ”not that difficult” to fix Social Security, that he would organize a high-level commission of “the smartest people in America” to solve the problem.

Smartest people in America??

He should have just used Palin’s SNL spoof answer…

“You know we’re gonna take every aspect of the crisis and look at it and then we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘what would a maverick do in this situation?’ And then, you know, we’ll do that.”

5% of me wants the election to never happen.  It is quite entertaining. :)

My Favorite Things (1) – Saturday Night Live

An optimist laughs to forget,
a pessimist forgets to laugh.

I LOVE Saturday Night Live, it is still one of only a few shows that make me laugh out loud.

Unfortunately, I missed last week’s season opener (I MUST set that DV-R) but thanks to one of my other favorite things, the internet, I was able to watch the best scene – the opening…a “non-partisan message” regarding sexism in the media from Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) and Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler).

It is hilarious…it touches on how the media has done a 180 on sexism and are now babying Palin where they practically drilled Hillary into the ground.  It’s probably the closest thing we’ll ever see to a real-life Hillary/Sarah exchange and it is it one of the best skits I think they’ve ever done.

Tina Fey is a genius and I cannot wait to see more of her this season!!  Here is the link for those who haven’t seen it…enjoy!!
