Wonder Wife & her personal ramblings

back to bikram

Those who think they have no time for exercise will eventually have to find time for illness.

-Edward Stanley

For the past few weeks, I’ve been having pep talks with myself about getting back to Bikram yoga and tonight I finally went.  I don’t think I’ve been for over a year.  I am so proud of myself for going yet so disgusted at how awfully my body performed in class today.  It felt like it was my first class when really, I’ve been at least 60 times.

Not to mention, you are forced to stare at yourself in bright light and skimpy clothing for 90 minutes which for me, was a wake up call I surely could have done without.  I know my clothes aren’t fitting right lately but the way I look in the mirror is SO different than the last time I was in that room and it’s definitely not for the better.

Ugghh..

Oh well.  I’m back to square one but at least square one is better than the couch.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

-World Health Organization, 1948

I have a new favorite health obsession: http://www.livestrong.com.  (thank you cousin for the referral!)  Any health conscious person should get a profile, I love this site so much I had to share it with you.

Livestong.com is a free online community (the skeleton a bit like myspace) but beyond that, it’s a very robust, fun, and practical health aid.  Here’s how it works – once you have a profile, you can take on dares that are important to you, for example:  lose weight, drink more water, spend more time with family, wake up early, etc…  Once your dares are selected, the site provides loads of resources to help you achieve your goals and also track your progress along the way.

I recently created two new dares for myself:  (1) drink more water & (2) get up early.  The site prompted me with a “Waking Up Early” program and a “Trick Yourself Into Drinking More Water” program.  The articles are filled with information to educate you on the importance of following through on your dares – the mere reading of the articles was enough to movitvate me to change my habits.

The “Lose Weight” dare is a very popular one.  I’ve researched many fitness/nutrition sites over the years and this one seems to be the best I’ve seen when it comes to losing weight the right way.  Check it out, even if you aren’t trying to lose weight, it is a great educational tool!!  And it’s free!!

If you create a profile, add me to your friends list…here is my URL:
